An infusion of texture and one of our favorite naturally derived dyes, PBJ's latest lineup of five pocket jeans specially delivers slub and earthy hues. Featuring irregular yarns, the "EX" denim features an obnoxious amount of slub due to the low-tension weave of the fabric, and accentuates the streaky rain-like texture seen throughout the jeans. While the warp threads have been sulphur-dyed to a deep black hue, it is the combination of Kakishibu (persimmon fruit) weft yarns that give these jeans the beautiful brown hue that can be seen in the fabric.

Kakishibu has a deep-rooted history in Japanese craft culture and tradition, dating back to the early 13th century when it was first introduced to Japan from China. Annually in late August, unripe persimmon are harvested as their tannin or juice is extracted. Used as a multi-solution tool, Kakishibu was used to cure hangovers, for wood lacquering and even as a clearing agent for sake, to name only a few of the varied applications of the historic dye.
