The new “Aoki Tachikage” limited model directly translates to “Blue Blade Shadow.” It references the image of a samurai sword cutting through darkness, leaving a fleeting blue glint in its wake. This idea mirrors the way the denim ages, as black fades away to reveal flashes of indigo underneath. In English, this fabric is often referred to as “Black on Blue” denim, a direct nod to its layered dye structure and evolving appearance.

The denim uses warp yarns dyed with a combination of sulphur black and indigo through a tedious process. At first glance the fabric appears almost entirely black, but with wear the sulphur dye gradually peels away, revealing indigo beneath. Over time, areas of wear display three distinct tones: the original black, exposed indigo, and the lighter indigo core of the rope dyed yarns. Both warp and weft use uneven number 6 yarns, with the weft dyed in sulphur black to deepen the overall tone and texture. 

Cut in Samurai’s Regular Straight silhouette, the fit offers a slightly higher rise and comfortable room through the top block, tapering subtly toward the hem for a timeless shape.
