The Studio D’Artisan Black Kasuri Dyed Beach Cloth Pants merge Japanese kasuri dyeing traditions with the historic American beach cloth, a fabric originally developed in the early 1900s for laborers on the harsh, cold East Coast. By intertwining threads of different colors in an irregular weave, the fabric develops a unique, textured surface with a random, salt-and-pepper effect - a characteristic that earned it the nickname "Goma-Shio" (sesame salt) in Japan.

Beach cloth was widely used for physically demanding jobs like mountaineering and forestry work, where durability and insulation were essential. The fabric was also famously adopted by early surfers who used it to stay warm after long hours in the ocean, leading to its association with "Beach Cloth" culture. By the 1920s and 1930s, its popularity had spread across the United States, becoming a staple among laborers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Studio D’Artisan reinterprets this iconic workwear fabric by incorporating kasuri weaving, a traditional Japanese textile technique historically used for garments. The result is the "Black Kasuri Dyed Beach Cloth," a fabric that embodies both the rugged spirit of American workwear and the artisanal beauty of Japanese craftsmanship. The kasuri-dyed warp threads create irregular, streak-like patterns, reminiscent of falling rain, adding depth and character to the fabric.
